Pediatric Inflammatory Multisystem Syndrome (PIMS), also called Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children Associated with COVID-19 (MIS-C), is a serious complication of COVID-19 that seems to only impact children and young adults. Healthcare experts do not know exactly how PIMS and COVID-19 are related. What they do know is that this serious complication is changing the way we think COVID-19 infections and risk factors.

Currently, hundreds of children across the United States are suffering from serious symptoms and are at risk for serious or even life-threatening complications due to PIMS/MIS-C. Beyond the U.S., PIMS/MIS-C is impacting children in at least 12 other countries. The exact number of children and young adults suffering from the condition is not known.
